WINNER 2011 NATIONAL AUSTRALIA BANK AWARD FOR YOUNG BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR
Ben Shipley, Managing Director of Comscentre
Ben studied at Griffith University and worked in the IT sector before establishing
Comscentre in 2002 in his garage in Rozeville, Sydney. He recognised a market
opportunity for the provision of unified communications solutions for small to medium
businesses. These organisations were increasingly finding themselves weighed down by
the management and cost of maintaining multiple technology providers. The primary
objective of Comscentre was to remove the complexity of unified communications
to reduce costs and increase productivity.
Ben recognised that smaller organisations were at a disadvantage to larger enterprises
which could afford the latest in state of the art telephony solutions and set about establishing
a business model which would grant smaller organisations the same access to the latest
technologies through a return on investment approach.
In 2004 he re-located Comscentre to Brisbane to better service the foundation client,
Flight Centre. It is the second business Ben has established in his career, previously
forming a company called eGlobal which was listed on the ASX during the dot com boom period.
