Terms and Conditions

  1. Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria in order to nominate and enter the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards. Each applicant must:
    1. currently operate in the Local Government Area of the City of Brisbane at the time of nomination, judging of the Awards and the Awards ceremony in 2008 (it is not necessary for a business to have its principal place of business located in the Local Government Area of the City of Brisbane);
    2. not be a department, agency or instrumentality of government, including a Government Owned Corporation pursuant to the Government Owned Corporations Act 1993; not-for-profit organisations are eligible to enter if they are registered as a company;
    3. if a not-for-profit organisations be registered as a company;
    4. fully and correctly complete an official Nomination Form (in accordance with the instructions on the Nomination Form) available on the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards website at www.lmba.com.au (“the Website”) and submit one original plus four copies of the Nomination Form together with any supporting material to “The Lord Mayor’s Business Awards”, PO Box 3695, South Brisbane, Qld, 4101 by the close of business on 25 August 2008.
  2. By submitting the Nomination Form, applicants accept these Terms and Conditions.
  3. Applicants may enter in more than one category specified on the Website but must submit separate Nomination Forms for each category they enter.
  4. Applicants for the Award for New Investment must nominate for new investments made or commenced to be made during the 2007/2008 financial year.
  5. Applicants for the Australia TradeCoast Award for Business Growth may nominate for any growth that has a direct benefit for their Brisbane operations or the City of Brisbane Local Government Area, whether this growth has occurred within Brisbane or elsewhere. Applicants must clearly explain how any growth outside of the City of Brisbane Local Government Area has had a direct benefit for their Brisbane operation or the City of Brisbane.
  6. Winning entrants from previous years may re-enter the Awards in all categories. However, if applicants choose to re-enter the same category in which they were previously a winner, the nomination must be for different/new achievements.
  7. The Lord Mayor’s Business Awards judges reserve the right to make the final determination about category placement.
  8. This is a competition of merit. Judgment of entries will be in accordance with the criteria specified on the relevant Nomination Form
  9. The judges may request further information from the applicants at their discretion at any time.
  10. The judges’ decision is final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into.
  11. The judging panel may differ for each category (including the Optus Platinum Award) and will consist of a panel of representatives (including one sponsor representative) selected by the Promoter based on abilities and expertise relevant to the particular category.
  12. Four finalists will be announced from each of the following categories and will be notified by telephone:
    • IBM Award for Business Innovation
    • Nova 106.9 Award for Business Creativity
    • Australia TradeCoast Award for Business Growth
    • Davidson Recruitment Award for Employer of Choice
    • Energex Award for Sustainability in Business
    • National Australia Bank Award for New Investment
    • Brisbane City Council Award for Corporate Citizenship
  13. Winners from the above categories will automatically be entered into the judging for the Optus Platinum Award from which one winner will be selected and announced at the Awards Ceremony to be held at Brisbane City Hall on 23 October 2008.
  14. There will also be two individual categories as follows:
    • Mercedes Benz Award for Young CEO of the Year
    • Lord Mayor’s Business Person of the Year
    There will be one winner selected from each of these categories announced at the Awards Ceremony to be held at Brisbane City Hall on 23 October 2008.
  15. Applications judged to be ineligible will be notified prior to the presentation of the Awards.
  16. The Promoter reserves the right to declare an applicant (including a finalist or winner) ineligible or disqualified from participating in the Awards, if in its sole discretion it considers that the applicant is unable to represent the Awards in a satisfactory manner or a conflict of interest exists with Brisbane City Council, Brisbane Marketing or a sponsor of the Awards. All decisions by the Promoter regarding eligibility are final.
  17. The Promoter reserves the right to accept or refuse late entries at its discretion and without notifying other applicants.
  18. The Promoter collects personal and business information in order to conduct the Awards. If the information requested is not provided, applicants may not be eligible to enter. By entering the Awards, all applicants agree that the event organisers can use this information in any media for future promotional and marketing purposes.
  19. By entering the Awards, applicants, finalists and winners agree that the event organisers can use their images for promotional and marketing purposes across all media.
  20. By entering the Awards, all applicants agree to have their entry/ies resubmitted by the Promoter to the 2009 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards if deemed appropriate by the Promoter. Such nominees will be notified in 2009 when nominations open.
  21. Sponsors of the 2008 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards cannot lodge an application for their sponsored category, however may enter other categories so long as they satisfy eligibility criteria.
  22. All references to Brisbane in these terms and conditions means the Brisbane City Council Local Government Area.
  23. The Promoter of the Awards is Brisbane City Council (through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Brisbane Marketing) of 266 George Street Brisbane 4000.
