Publication date: 16 November, 2009 MINEWARE founder and chief executive officer, Andrew Jessett, has been presented with The Mercedes Benz Young Business Person of the Year Award. Jesset received the award at the 2009 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards Gala Dinner in Brisbane City Hall on 8 October 2009. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman says the winners have been recognised not only for their economic contribution to Brisbane but their ability to enable innovation, create and attract talent, and connect to the national and international marketplace. The 33-year-old technology entrepreneur was recognised for his commitment to building a strong Brisbane-based business and developing Queensland as a hub for mining innovation. Jesset independently created and commercialised the world’s most advanced dragline monitor system (Pegasys) and, since 2005, has successfully grown MineWare into a recognised leader in mine and heavy equipment monitoring technology. Jesset says he is honoured to accept the prestigious award, attributing his success to the dedicated people at MineWare and the company’s strong partnership approach to working with industry, government and education. As local technology companies picked up five out of the nine categories on the night, Jesset says the awards represented a promising sign for the growth of the technology sector in Brisbane and Queensland. Jesset claims it is incredibly exciting to be part of Brisbane’s rapid growth and development in mining technology, which contributes more than $1 Billion to the economy. According to the Invest Brisbane report into the mining technology services sector, sixty percent of the world demand for mining software is sourced from Brisbane, while the clear majority of Queensland’s 300 mining technology service providers operate in Brisbane.
