Thiess Award for New Investment 2007
Brisbane Airport Corporation
Brisbane Airport is the fastest growing major airport on Australia’s eastern seaboard, serving one of the fastest growing regions in Australia – greater Brisbane.
Sixteen million people travelled through Brisbane Airport last year alone, representing a 9 per cent growth in passenger numbers. As a result, BAC is rolling out an investment program of around $2.2 billion in capacity-related infrastructure. This privately-funded investment covers four major projects: a New Parallel Runway; a Northern Access Road, and International and Domestic Terminal Expansions, and will be delivered over the next 10 years.
BAC’s integral role in the growth and globalisation of the South East Queensland economy has ensured the transformation of Brisbane’s city airport to the Airport City of the future.
Not only will this $2.2 billion infrastructure investment program allow for the continuation of economic growth across South East Queensland, but it will play a major role in delivering Australia’s first true Airport City. The construction of a New Parallel Runway alone ensures greater Brisbane will receive between $5 billion and $7.5 billion into the economy each year until 2035.
